Amul, the renowned dairy brand, has announced a price hike of Rs 2 per litre across all variants of its milk, effective from June 3. The decision comes as a response to the rise in operational and production costs, as stated by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the organization behind the Amul brand.

The last time GCMMF had raised the milk price was in February 2023. The hike is necessitated to compensate farmers for their increased cost of production, Mehta said.

Jayen Mehta, the Managing Director of GCMMF, emphasized that the price adjustment aims to offset the increased expenses incurred by milk producers. This hike marks the first increase in Amul milk prices since February 2023.

Impact on Consumers

With this revision, the prices of popular Amul variants like 500 ml Amul Buffalo Milk, 500 ml Amul Gold Milk, and 500 ml Amul Shakti Milk will now stand at Rs 36, Rs 33, and Rs 30, respectively. Despite the increment, GCMMF assures consumers that the rise translates to only a modest 3–4% increase in Maximum Retail Price (MRP), which remains lower than the average food inflation rate.

Commitment to Milk Producers

GCMMF reaffirms its commitment to supporting milk producers by passing on a significant portion of the revenue earned from milk sales. As part of its policy, Amul channels nearly 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers directly to milk producers. This price revision is envisioned to sustain competitive milk prices for producers while fostering higher milk production.

In summary, the price hike in Amul milk reflects the brand’s dedication to maintaining fair compensation for milk producers amid rising operational costs. Despite the adjustment, Amul continues its tradition of providing quality dairy products at reasonable prices to consumers across India.
